During Spring and summer due to the warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours this sticky substance, tree sap is exuded by certain trees. If this drips on cars parked underneath or is carried in the wind to nearby cars, the effects can be quite damaging.

Often un-noticeable until the sun shines, tree sap will give your car a rough texture and if left to harden, could have the following effects.
- Adhesion and Hardening: Fresh sap is sticky and can adhere to the car’s surface easily. The longer it stays on the paintwork, the more difficult it is to clean off without the help of a detailers techniques.
- Chemical Damage: Tree sap contains various organic compounds and sugars that can chemically interact with the car’s paint. Prolonged exposure can lead to the sap breaking down the clear coat, which is the protective layer of the paintwork.
- Physical Abrasion: Attempting to remove hardened sap without the proper tools or techniques can lead to scratches and abrasions on the car’s surface.
- Staining: Some tree saps contain pigments that can stain the car’s paint. Even after the sap is removed, the pigments can leave behind unsightly marks that are difficult to erase.

It’s imperative to regularly wash your car. Removing any sap before it hardens and causes damage. Using a gentle car shampoo and a microfiber cloth is recommended to avoid scratching your paintwork.
